About Abode Money

Abode Money is the first-ever AI financial home manager, using AI to save homeowners on property taxes, insurance, mortgage and more. Homeowners spend $2T+ per year on their home. Not only is it difficult to buy a home today, but it's become just as challenging to continue owning your home. We're going to be the first to create a relationship with 80M+ homeowners in the US by saving them money year after year.

We've raised $23M from Permanent Capital, Drive Capital, Sequoia, Core VC and The 81 Collection.

The Role

We're hiring a Chief of Staff to work directly with the CEO on the problems that don't have an owner yet. We're adding products, channels, and lines of business faster than we can staff them. Your job is to take the hardest open question on the list and come back with an answer, or a business. If you want to run something of your own someday, this is the closest thing to doing it with a safety net.

The work falls into three buckets. Hard problems: how do we build out a last-mile contractor network, who's the right person to build our brand, where are we falling short with users. New initiatives: a nationwide insurance brokerage, a PMI roll-off product, an out-of-home ambassador program. Those are live, not hypotheticals. And CFO+ responsibilities: our outsourced controller and bookkeeping, the budget, KPIs, actuals against projections, and working with in-house and outside counsel.

Filing in all 50 states means we operate under thousands of separate regulatory regimes, and we resource it accordingly: in-house counsel, outside counsel at a top-tier firm, standing relationships with county assessors and state agencies, policy work in our largest markets, and compliance diligence with the banks and credit unions who distribute us. You'll be in that work.

You reach for the data before the opinion, and you can turn an ambiguous question into a recommendation someone can act on. That rigor is why we're hiring you, more than any single domain. Use AI to move faster on the analysis, modeling, and research.

You'll see every function, own real P&L decisions, sit in board and investor conversations, and stand up businesses from zero. Several of them will outgrow you and get their own leader, which is the point. The people who do this job well go on to start something or run a function somewhere serious, and we'd rather have that person for a great two or three years than someone looking to settle in.

What You’ll Do

  • Solve Hard Problems: Take the hardest unowned question on the company's list, do the work, and come back with a recommendation and a plan.
  • Stand Up New Initiatives: Launch new lines of business from zero, from a nationwide insurance brokerage to a PMI roll-off product, run them until they're real, and hand them off to a permanent owner.
  • Own Finance Operations: Manage our outsourced controller and bookkeeping, build and maintain the budget, and own the monthly close cadence.
  • Track the Numbers: Monitor company KPIs, track actuals against projections, and flag variances before they become surprises.
  • Manage Legal and Regulatory: Work with in-house and outside counsel on contracts, entity and licensing work, and our regulatory position, including county and state relationships, policy work in our largest markets, and compliance diligence with the banks and credit unions who distribute us.
  • Work Directly with the CEO: Operate as an extension of the CEO on whatever is most important that week, including board and investor material.
  • Write It Down: Turn research and analysis into short, decision-ready documents the team can act on without a meeting.

Who You Are

  • Reach for the data before the opinion. You can scope an ambiguous problem and get to a defensible answer fast
  • Are hungry, curious, and self-directed
  • Want to be a founder or run something of your own, and treat this as the training ground for it. We hire for that ambition on purpose
  • Are comfortable in legal and regulatory detail. You don't need to be a lawyer, but you should be able to hold your own with them and know when to push
  • Can switch context without losing the thread, from a financial model to a regulatory question to a new business plan
  • Use AI to move faster on analysis, modeling, and building your own tools
  • Move fast with a high bar. Sloppy models and loose numbers bother you
  • Learn new domains fast and don't need to be the expert on day one

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience, with time in consulting, banking, or a similar analytical seat, plus real operating experience at a startup
  • Strong financial and analytical skills. Comfortable building and owning a model, a budget, and a KPI pack yourself, and using AI to do it faster
  • Have owned a project or initiative end to end, with results you can point to
  • Based in Austin and able to work onsite
  • Bonus: exposure to finance operations, regulatory strategy, policy or government affairs, or a regulated line of business such as insurance or lending

Our Core Values

The biggest thing we pride ourselves on is autonomy. You can't move fast through committee decision-making, so we hire people who want to own workstreams outright.

Take ownership. This is yours. We build everything through single-threaded autonomy. One person owns the outcome, makes the calls, and sees it through. We believe in "asking for forgiveness, not permission" so you can make unencumbered decisions.

Move fast. Decide. Ship. Learn. Repeat. Speed is our edge. Perfection is the enemy of momentum. We will forever move faster than our competition.

Be resourceful. Find ways to do more with less. Constraints don't slow us down. They make us inventive. There's always a way through, and the people who own their work find it. "That's not my job" isn't a sentence anyone here finishes.

Think big and challenge convention. Dare to do things differently. You don't change the world with incrementally better solutions. The systems we're fixing are broken because everyone accepted them. We question the default, build the better answer, and refuse to blend in.

Measure everything. Data is the tiebreaker. We turn instincts into evidence, hunches into experiments, and opinions into numbers. If we can measure it, we can beat it.
