The Opportunity:
ApplyBoard is seeking a Database Administrator to support one of our school partners with the performance, reliability, and security of their data platforms. This role is responsible for managing SQL Server environments, ensuring data integrity, and supporting scalable, cloud-aligned database operations.
You will play a key role in maintaining database health, optimizing performance, and implementing best practices across backup, recovery, security, and monitoring. This is a hands-on role suited for someone with strong operational experience and a “cloud-first” mindset.
What You’ll Be Doing Every Day:
Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server database environments
Establish and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes, including regular testing
Monitor database performance and availability using industry-standard tools
Perform performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization
Implement and maintain high availability solutions (e.g., failover clustering, replication)
Manage database security, including user roles, permissions, and data protection (e.g., encryption for sensitive data)
Support data integrity through consistency checks and validation processes
Plan and manage capacity, growth, and system upgrades
Maintain database maintenance plans, patching, and version upgrades
Develop and support ETL and reporting infrastructure (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
Build and maintain SQL queries, scripts, and reports to support business and internal needs
Collaborate with teams to support data warehousing and reporting solutions
Maintain documentation, standards, and governance practices for database environments
Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to database architecture and operations
What You Bring to the Table:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
1–3 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator
Experience working in cloud environments (e.g., Azure)
Strong knowledge of database administration fundamentals (backup/recovery, performance tuning, security)
Experience with monitoring and performance optimization tools
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
