Sensor Fusion Engineer
Havoc AI
About Us:
HavocAI is an innovative defense technology company making scalable maritime autonomy a reality. We are pioneering an end-to-end solution for planning, tasking and control of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). As we continue to quickly grow, we are looking for motivated individuals that are inspired to work within an extremely energetic, creative, and innovative team that is passionate about maritime robotics and exploring the open ocean. We work in a highly dynamic environment where collaboration and idea sharing are a way of life.
About the Role:
As a Sensor Fusion Engineer at HavocAI, you will develop and optimize algorithms that integrate data from multiple sensors—including cameras, LiDAR, radar, and more—to enable real-time state estimation and target tracking for autonomous maritime systems. You’ll implement probabilistic filtering and multi-object tracking techniques to support robust decision-making, while ensuring low-latency performance on edge platforms. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll also conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing and refine algorithms based on real-world performance. If you’re passionate about advancing maritime autonomy with innovative sensor fusion solutions, join our mission-driven team at HavocAI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop sensor fusion algorithms to integrate data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, AIS, GPS, and IMUs for real-time state estimation and target tracking.
- Implement multi-object tracking (MOT) and data association techniques to generate accurate tracks for autonomy decision-making.
- Design and implement probabilistic filtering methods (e.g., Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters, Particle Filters) for robust state estimation and uncertainty modeling.
- Optimize sensor fusion pipelines for low-latency, real-time inference on embedded and edge compute platforms.
- Work with sensor synchronization, calibration, and error correction to ensure high-quality data integration.
- Develop techniques for outlier rejection, state smoothing, and sensor fault detection.
- Integrate sensor fusion models into HavocAI’s autonomy stack, supporting navigation, obstacle avoidance, and collaborative autonomy.
- Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validate sensor fusion models using real-world maritime datasets.
- Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to incorporate machine learning-based sensor fusion approaches where applicable.
- Work with MQTT and real-time data pipelines to ensure robust and scalable sensor data exchange across distributed autonomy systems.
- Participate in field testing and deployments to refine fusion algorithms based on real-world performance.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience developing sensor fusion, multi-sensor tracking, or state estimation algorithms for robotics, autonomy, or defense applications.
- Strong expertise in state estimation, probabilistic filtering (e.g., Kalman, UKF, Particle Filters), and Bayesian inference.
- Experience working with sensor data from EO/IR cameras, LiDAR, radar, AIS, IMUs, and GPS.
- Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for real-time perception and sensor processing.
- Experience with real-time messaging frameworks, such as MQTT, DDS, or ZeroMQ.
- Knowledge of object tracking algorithms, multi-sensor data association techniques (e.g., JPDA, MHT), and SLAM.
- Familiarity with coordinate transformations, sensor calibration, and geospatial data processing.
- Experience optimizing sensor fusion pipelines for embedded systems and edge computing.
- Strong understanding of computational geometry, point cloud processing, and radar signal interpretation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with rapid iteration and real-world deployment.
- Must be a US Citizen
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with autonomous maritime systems, robotic platforms, or defense-related applications.
- Knowledge of deep learning for sensor fusion, including sensor fusion transformers or graph neural networks.
- Experience integrating multi-modal sensor data in a decentralized, distributed autonomy system.
- Familiarity with software-defined radios (SDRs) and RF-based sensing.
- Hands-on experience with field testing, debugging real-world perception systems, and deploying autonomy software on embedded hardware.
