Our openings span more than one career level. The provided salary depends on many factors, such as work experience and transferable skills, business needs and impact, and market demands.
About Us:
Collaborative autonomy is how self-tasking teams of machines will solve hard human problems, and HavocAI is an unquestioned leader in collaborative autonomy. We set the standard for autonomous surface vessels for a wide range of defense and commercial maritime missions. Success requires us to grow quickly, and we’re looking for teammates who are passionate about solving hard problems, about pushing the envelope, and about preventing conflict and saving lives. Ambition is welcome to apply within.
About the Role:
HavocAI is seeking a Test Engineer to support the development, integration, and validation of our Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) platforms and autonomy systems. This role is hands-on and highly cross-functional — bridging hardware, software, and field operations to ensure every system performs with precision and reliability in dynamic maritime environments.
As a Test Engineer, you will work directly with engineering and mission operations teams to plan, execute, and analyze tests across mechanical systems, autonomy payloads, sensors, and embedded software. You’ll help ensure our vessels don’t just function — they operate intelligently, autonomously, and dependably at sea.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Plan & Execute ASV System Tests: Develop and run test procedures for mechanical, electrical, and software systems across multiple ASV platforms.
Autonomy Validation: Test autonomy algorithms, control systems, and sensor integration to ensure safe and reliable vessel behavior in real-world maritime environments.
Systems Integration: Collaborate with autonomy, hardware, and networking teams to integrate payloads, propulsion systems, and onboard electronics.
Troubleshoot & Diagnose: Rapidly identify and resolve issues across system interfaces — from embedded software to mechanical performance.
Data Capture & Analysis: Collect and analyze telemetry, sensor, and mission data to evaluate performance and identify improvements.
Continuous Improvement: Support design feedback loops by documenting results, root causes, and recommendations for next iteration testing.
Field Testing & Operations: Deploy and operate ASVs in coastal and open-water environments to validate performance under real-world conditions.
Safety & Quality Assurance: Maintain rigorous safety, operational, and testing standards during lab, dockside, and open-water trials.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in test engineering, systems integration, or field testing of complex systems.
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems in robotic or autonomous platforms.
Experience with embedded systems, networking, or communication protocols (CAN, UDP, TCP/IP).
Hands-on experience with autonomous or remotely operated systems, ideally in maritime environments.
Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.
Strong analytical mindset, with comfort using test data to drive conclusions.
Willingness to work in the field — including marine, coastal, or offshore environments.
U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
Ability to travel up to 50% and lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Ocean Engineering.
Experience testing Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
Familiarity with autonomy frameworks (ROS2, MOOS-IvP, PX4, or similar).
Experience with sensor and payload integration (navigation, perception, or comms).
Proficiency with Linux environments and test automation tools.
Experience with small boat operations, maritime safety, or field deployments.
Benefits:
100% Employer paid Health, Dental and Vision Insurance for you and your families
Life Insurance
Ability to participate in the companies 401k program
Unlimited PTO policy with an enforced 2 week minimum
Equity Package
Work / Home Office Stipend
Global Entry
16 Week Paid Parental Leave
Monthly Health and Wellness Stipend
