About This Role
As Manager, Platform Engineering, you'll lead the infrastructure team that empowers all of KOHO's engineering organization to deliver faster, more reliably, and at scale. You'll own our cloud infrastructure, developer infrastructure experience, production reliability and scaling, and compliance readiness while navigating critical business initiatives that enable KOHO's growth and product innovation.
This is a role for someone who thrives in high-stakes technical environments, can translate ambiguous business requirements into concrete infrastructure solutions, and builds high-performing teams that deliver exceptional results. You'll report directly to the Head of Platform Engineering and serve as a critical technical leader in the organization.
Note on Level: We're hiring a Manager role but are open to levelling up to Senior Manager for candidates with proven senior-level experience who can handle the continuously rising stakes and complexity of this domain as we scale our infrastructure to support KOHO's growth in the regulated financial services landscape.
What You'll Be Doing
Empowering engineering teams to build, ship, and operate products faster and more reliably through world-class platform infrastructure.
Lead critical infrastructure & reliability initiatives: Drive cloud infrastructure architecture, disaster recovery capabilities, high-availability systems design, and compliance-ready infrastructure for a regulated financial services environment
Build and lead a high-performing platform team: Manage a team of cloud infrastructure engineers through complex technical challenges while creating clear career growth paths and maintaining a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence
Own production operations & site reliability: Ensure exceptional availability and reliability of production systems through proactive monitoring, incident response, performance optimization, and cost efficiency
Enable security & regulatory compliance: Implement and maintain infrastructure for industry security standards and regulatory requirements while managing vulnerability remediation and access controls in partnership with our Cyber Security team
Drive platform strategy & innovation: Define the technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure, Cloud Infra CI/CD, container orchestration, Infrastructure as Code, and developer infra tooling while leveraging AI and automation to reduce operational toil
Who You Are
You have deep infrastructure & platform engineering expertise: 5+ years in platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles with hands-on experience building and operating cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent, Kubernetes, Terraform, Cloud Infra CI/CD) in production environments at scale
You are a proven people leader: Experience managing engineering teams (4-6+ people), with demonstrated success coaching engineers, managing performance, driving team delivery, and building inclusive high-trust team cultures
You thrive in ambiguity and complexity: You excel at taking high-level business objectives and translating them into actionable technical strategies. You can structure solutions when problems are not clearly defined
You balance strategic vision with tactical execution: You can define technical roadmaps and improve team processes, then dive deep to unblock critical production issues or guide complex implementations
You comunicate with exceptional clarity: You can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders, write clear documentation, and build strong cross-functional relationships
-
You think in systems and acts with focus: You understand how infrastructure decisions cascade through developer velocity, product delivery, costs, security, and business outcomes
Requirements for Manager Level
Team management experience: 2-4 years successfully managing a single engineering team, with ability to adjust team processes based on feedback, drive continuous improvement, and maintain team motivation
Production ownership: Strong track record owning production operations, setting and maintaining SLAs, and handling incident response for critical systems
Technical leadership: Hands-on experience with infrastructure technologies and ability to guide engineers through complex technical challenges while introducing new tools and processes
-
Growth mindset: Demonstrated ability to learn, adapt, and continuously improve both yourself and your team
Requirements for Senior Manager Level
Senior leadership maturity: 4-6+ years managing engineering teams with proven ability to lead through increasingly complex and high-stakes situations in business-critical or regulated environments
Strategic domain ownership: Track record defining and implementing multi-quarter technical strategies for complex infrastructure domains, evolving system architecture to support future requirements, and making sound architectural decisions with long-term impact
Department-level influence: Experience defining processes at the department level, shaping broader organizational technical direction, and serving as a key link between senior leadership and engineering teams
Handles rising stakes with confidence: Proven success navigating high-pressure situations—regulatory requirements, business-critical launches, complex migrations, or incident management—while maintaining team stability and delivering results
Mentors and develops leaders: Demonstrated ability to mentor other managers or senior engineers, preparing the next generation of technical leaders
Autonomous and proactive: You don't wait to be told what to do—you identify opportunities, define the work, and rally your team around a compelling vision for the domain
What Sets You Apart 🌟
This role is best suited for someone who wants real growth - not just more tasks, but more scope, more impact, and more trust, and wants to make a real impact in the financial lives of Canadians.
You've led infrastructure teams in regulated industries: Experience with financial services, payments, or other compliance-heavy environments where infrastructure decisions have regulatory implications
You've driven complex infrastructure initiatives: Examples might include cloud migrations, disaster recovery implementations, multi-region deployments, infrastructure modernization, or scaling infrastructure for rapid growth
You have a track record of operational excellence: You've built or improved monitoring, incident response, and SRE practices that measurably improved system reliability and team efficiency
You're passionate about developer experience: You see infrastructure as a product for internal engineering teams and focus on making developers' lives better through automation, self-service capabilities, and excellent tooling
You embrace AI-enabled workflows: You're excited about leveraging AI and automation to accelerate infrastructure work, reduce manual toil, and enable your team to focus on high-value initiatives
You understand "you build it, you run it": Deep experience with modern DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code, container orchestration, and empowering development teams to own their operational responsibilities
