Normal Computing | Incredible Opportunities
The Normal Team builds foundational software and hardware that help move technology forward, supporting the semiconductor industry, critical AI infrastructure, and the broader systems that power our world. We work as one team across New York, San Francisco, Copenhagen, and London.
Your Role in Our Mission
We're looking for a People Operations Specialist to own the daily operations engine of Normal's People function. We're building purpose-built AI for silicon engineering and developing a fundamentally new class of computing hardware to solve the AI energy crisis, and we're hiring across the global startup to match the pace and ambition of that work. You'll support employees from initial offer through their entire time at Normal, ensuring onboarding runs smoothly, HR systems stay accurate, and employees get fast, reliable answers to their questions.
The work is high-volume, detail-intensive, and foundational to how the company operates as we scale globally. This role requires someone who can manage competing priorities without losing accuracy, and who understands the broader context behind people operations work: what tradeoffs were made, who made them, and why. You'll identify areas where processes create friction and propose practical improvements, not just run existing workflows. This role reports to the People Operations and Programs Lead.
Responsibilities
Own and run onboarding: Manage Normal's onboarding program end to end, ensuring every new hire has a smooth, well-organized experience from offer letter through their first weeks. This includes onboarding logistics, compliance tasks, and partnering with internal teams to connect new hires with the resources they need.
Maintain data integrity across HR systems: Process and audit a high volume of employee job and data changes in Sequoia and Deel, including new hire setup, terminations, and annual compensation cycles. Keep records accurate and current as the team scales.
Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries: Respond to questions related to benefits, enrollments, payroll, company policies, verifications of employment, and other HR topics with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and a positive employee experience.
Build and improve operational processes: Identify areas where workflows create friction for employees or operators, and design practical solutions. This could range from building SOPs for recurring processes to triaging inbound requests more efficiently to partnering on HRIS process improvements.
Support cross-functional partners: Work with teams across the company to resolve people operations requests efficiently. Use people data to answer questions coming from the business and provide context that helps teams make informed decisions.
Drive automation of workflows: Use AI and operational best practices to automate administrative tasks, improving efficiency and accuracy while maintaining a high-quality employee experience.
What we are looking for:
Experience: 2-5 years of experience in human resources, people operations, or a related field.
Systems proficiency: Hands-on experience with Sequoia One, Deel, Rippling, or similar HR information systems. Experience with Linear or similar project management tools for tracking and triaging operational requests.
High-volume execution: The core of this role is operational consistency at scale. You can manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail across all of them.
Communication skills: Clear and concise verbal and written communication, with the ability to collaborate across a diverse set of teams, including technical and business stakeholders, in both virtual and in-person environments.
Process improvement instincts: A track record of identifying ways to optimize workflows over time, whether that means streamlining an onboarding step, improving how requests are triaged, or building a new SOP to meet an emerging need.
Discretion and judgment: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with care, and to navigate nuanced situations with tact.
Adaptability: Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift, problems are sometimes open-ended, and the right answer requires thinking through tradeoffs rather than following a script.
Service orientation: You treat every employee interaction as an opportunity to build trust. A commitment to high-touch, responsive support is central to how you work.
