About SonderMind
At SonderMind, we are on a mission to transform mental healthcare through innovation. We believe therapy works, but it can work better, getting people to better faster – so we’re building a new model of care that is AI-first, accessible, and data-driven. Our platform goes beyond traditional provider directories or referral services; instead, we deliver end-to-end care through an integrated digital platform combining therapy, psychiatry, self-care tools, and intelligent automation. By leveraging cutting-edge technology (from an AI-powered care concierge that matches patients with the right therapist to smart clinical tools for providers), we ensure people get the right care at the right time, with measurable outcomes to prove it. We’re a remote-first company, with a nationwide network of clinicians. Employees and Clinicians are united by a passion for improving lives through personalized mental health care. SonderMind isn’t just another health tech startup – we’re pioneering the future of mental health, and we invite you to join us in redefining how care is delivered. About the Role
We are seeking an Engineering Manager who will lead and scale a diverse, distributed engineering team in our fast-paced, AI-driven environment. In this role, you will oversee multiple engineering squads and drive the delivery of innovative features that enhance onboarding and first customer impression of our mental health platform. You will partner closely with product managers, designers, business stakeholders and other experts to align technology with our mission, ensuring we build not only technically robust and scalable solutions, but also delightful for users and transformative for care. This is a high-impact leadership position where you’ll blend hands-on technical insight with strategic thinking, and where your guidance will directly shape the future of mental health technology.
What you’ll do
- Lead and scale a full stack (backend, web, AI) globally distributed engineering team, fostering collaboration across time zones and driving high-impact delivery.
- Drive innovation in AI/ML-powered product development for mental health solutions, integrating cutting-edge intelligent features into a mobile platform, using LLMs, agentic workflows and home grown models.
- Champion a quick validation of prototypes based execution approach, ensuring our applications provide seamless, user-centric experiences on all our surfaces.
- Architect and oversee a robust scalable distributed systems infrastructure as we transition from monolith to cloud-native microservices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, data, and clinical teams to align engineering initiatives with business and user needs, delivering features that push the envelope to advance our mission.
Who You Are
- You have led, inspired, and mentored diverse engineering teams, scaling and growing talent across regions and cultivated a high-performance culture.
- You bring deep technical expertise in building scalable systems and AI/ML products – with a track record of deploying distributed architectures that perform at enterprise scale.
- You have a way with engineers to inspire them to exceed their own expectations in terms of quality and innovation to push the envelopes of deliverables.
- You excel at cross-functional collaboration and communication, effectively aligning engineers with designers, product managers, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
- You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, adeptly balancing quick wins with long-term strategy while maintaining quality and reliability.
- You lead by example with a hands-on approach, remaining technical enough to dive into code or architecture decisions and guide your team through complex problems when needed.
