Description

VAST Data is looking to hire an APJC Communications Director in Singapore!

This is a rare opportunity to shape and operate the communications function for one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure companies in history, at a time when AI, data sovereignty, and enterprise platforms are colliding at scale.

VAST sits at the center of the AI infrastructure revolution, not as a hype company, but as the data platform trusted by the world’s most demanding enterprises, governments, and AI builders.

“VAST’s data management vision is the future of the market.” – Forbes

VAST Data is the data platform company for the AI era. We are building the enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets — and make them available for real-time analytics, AI training, and inference. Designed from the ground up to simplify AI deployment, VAST removes the cost and complexity of enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud.

Our success is driven by deep innovation, a customer-first mindset, and a team of fearless VASTronauts who value impact over process. This role offers the chance to be a senior operator at a pivotal moment in both the company’s growth and the evolution of modern computing.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced APJC Communications Director to lead VAST’s communications efforts across the Asia-Pacific, Japan and China region.

This is not a traditional regional PR role. It is an operator role for someone who has already led communications of the region inside a global, commercially driven organisation, and understands how to deliver impact under real-world constraints; budget scrutiny, leadership bandwidth, fast-moving priorities, and complex regional dynamics.

The APJC Communications Director will act as the on-the-ground communications leader for the region, working closely with regional sales, marketing, and executive leadership, while serving as a key extension of VAST’s global communications team.

Success in this role depends less on formal planning cycles and more on judgement, timing, and the ability to translate business reality into credible communications activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead VAST’s communications efforts across priority APJC markets, including Singapore, Australia, Japan, China, Korea, and additional markets as business priorities evolve.
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to APJC leadership, providing clear guidance on messaging, timing, and visibility.
  • Exercise strong judgement in deciding where communications effort is genuinely required, and where restraint is the better choice.
  • Manage and direct regional PR agencies and freelancers selectively, ensuring external support is used only where it adds clear value.
  • Work closely with global communications to ensure APJC perspectives inform global narratives and priorities.
  • Support executive visibility through targeted media engagement, thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and selective social presence.
  • Provide regional intelligence and insight to global leadership on media, regulatory, competitive, and narrative trends.
  • Support major APJC events and executive travel moments with focused, high-quality communications support.
  • Challenge senior stakeholders constructively when messaging, positioning, or expectations are misaligned with business reality.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of communications experience, with at least 5 years in an in-house senior role within a global organisation. Scale-up size organisational experience a benefit.
  • Demonstrated experience leading regional or multi-country communications programs in APJC.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise technology, infrastructure, cloud, AI, or adjacent sectors.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in founder-led or product-driven organisations where investment is closely scrutinised.
  • Excellent media relationships and understanding of key analysts and influencers within the region.
  • High level of commercial judgement and comfort operating without rigid plans or guaranteed budgets.
  • Experience managing agencies and external partners with clarity, discipline, and pragmatism.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders across functions and geographies without formal authority.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging skills, with a strong instinct for credibility over volume. Storytelling over pure PR skillset and awareness of multiple mediums and platforms is a must.
  • Comfortable working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where priorities shift.
  • Fluent in English; additional APJC languages a plus.

Willingness to travel regionally as needed; this is not a desk-only role.
